Cuba occupies Vice Presidency of Internacional AICA

By: Adalys Pérez Suárez

Cuba will take until 2017 a vice-chairmanship of the International Association of Art Critics, AICA, in the person of David Matthew, a prominent worshiper of this discipline in the country and the president on the Island subsidiary of the Non Governmental Organization created in 1950.

This was learned after completing the XLVII International Congress of the aforementioned NGOs, held recently in South Korean cities of Seoul and Suwon in order to reflect on the role of art criticism in the global environment, new approaches and their methodology to be followed in the various modes of expression and complexity of modern art.

Worthy of the National Curatorship Award in 2001 and the National Critics Award Guy Perez Cisneros the following year, David Matthew has also been executive editor of the trade magazine Artecubano, the news tabloid Noticias de Artecubano, as well as the magazine of art and literature Dédalo.

His selection as one of five vice-presidents of the International AICA besides being a fact a recognition of the development of art criticism in the Greater Antilles and the work done by the Caribbean subsidiary, will serve to strengthen working relationships with the NGO based in Paris, France.

After completing the recent conclave, its organizers also expressed interest to be held in Havana next Congress, which must take place in 2015.
