SAM: a new fair is born in Madrid

Art Week in Madrid will have, from this 2019, a new fair dedicated exclusively to the great masters of the twentieth century: The Modern Art Salon of Madrid (SAM), which will be held from February 26 to March 3, on Calle Velázquez 12, in the Spanish capital.

SAM was born with the purpose of filling a gap that exists around modern art in the rest of the fairs held during the Art Week in Madrid. According to Jorge Alcolea, director of SAM, the masdearte.com magazine: "The issue is that there is no real specialization in the environment of the fairs and I think it is fundamental in the art market. In ARCO, for example, there is contemporary art, the latest, the avant-garde, and something modern; and in Art Madrid there is more contemporary art and there is no modern art ...

"The idea of SAM was born from a demand from the gallerists and dealers themselves who understood that there was no specialized space for them. For our part, we intend this to be an annual event, to remain, and to the collectors who are looking for modern art we make it easy to have it all together. They will not have to distribute themselves for several fairs because in SAM they will find very solid exhibitors, the most important ones within this concrete period of art ".

In this first edition, the fair will feature a selection of ten national galleries that will showcase important paintings and sculptures by some of the artists who have shaped the art of the 20th century, such as Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Salvador Dalí, Antoni Tàpies, Alberto Giacometti , Tamara de Lempicka, Manolo Valdés, Miquel Barceló or Pablo Palazuelo.

Some of the pieces will be exhibited for the first time, after having been jealously guarded for years. There will also be a Clavé of the year '46 and works by Marc Chagall, Esteban Vicente, Jean Metzinger, María Blanchard, Antonio Saura, Jaume Plensa, Equipo Crónica, Juan Muñoz and Eduardo Chillida, among others.

Organized by the Salon du Connaisseur, it will have among its exhibitors the most important Spanish galleries in the sector such as the Jorge Juan Gallery (Madrid), Benlliure Gallery (Valencia), Jordi Pascual Gallery (Barcelona), Jorge Alcolea (Madrid), Galeria de Pilares Art (Cuenca), Cisne Gallery (Madrid), Fernando Pinós Gallery (Barcelona), Montenegro Gallery (Vigo), Alcolea Nonell (Barcelona) and Andreda Modern Art Library (Madrid).

The first Modern Art Salon in Madrid will officially open on Wednesday, February 26, at 7:30 pm and may be visited until Sunday, March 3. Every day, at 12:00 and at 17:00 hours, Art Gallery Tour will carry out guided visits with an art expert (prior registration at info@artgallerytour.es).

The price of tickets is 10 euros, although it is possible to get free invitations on their website www.feriasam.com.
