Art Basel has announced the 36 recipients of the Art Basel Awards 2025, a global distinction honoring individuals and institutions redefining the way art is created, experienced, and sustained in the contemporary landscape. The selected honorees include artists, curators, patrons, institutions, and cross-disciplinary creators whose practices are driving meaningful change in the international art world.
Presented in partnership with BOSS, the core brand of HUGO BOSS, the awards are divided into nine categories: Icon Artists, Established Artists, Emerging Artists, Cross-Disciplinary Creators, Patrons, Institutions, Curators, Allies, and Storytellers. This edition sets a new precedent for recognizing and supporting the ecosystem behind today’s most relevant artistic practices.
Notable medalists include:
- Lubaina Himid (UK) – Black Arts pioneer and UK representative for the 2026 Venice Biennale.
- Adrian Piper (USA) – First-generation conceptual artist known for her critical engagement with race, identity, and power.
- Meriem Bennani (Morocco/USA) – Known for blending digital culture, postcolonial critique, and humor through sculpture and video.
- Pan Daijing (China/Germany) – Sound and performance artist creating raw and immersive environments.
- Formafantasma (Italy) – Design duo conducting radical research-based work with international design leaders.
- Candice Hopkins (Canada) – Carcross/Tagish First Nation curator reshaping art history through Indigenous leadership.
- RAW Material Company (Senegal) – Experimental art incubator and think tank in Dakar, founded by the late Koyo Kouoh, who also served as a juror for this edition.
"The Art Basel Awards are not a competition, but a beacon. They shine a light on those working with radical vision, skill, and commitment to building communities of practice and exchange," stated Vincenzo de Bellis, Chair of the Art Basel Awards and Director of Fairs and Exhibition Platforms at Art Basel.
The Art Basel Awards Summit will be held on June 20 in Basel, as part of Art Basel’s broader 2025 programming.
This edition is dedicated to the memory of Koyo Kouoh (1967–2025), a highly respected curator, museum director, and cultural leader. Her contributions as a juror and her lifelong dedication to empowering future generations in the arts are honored through this year’s awards.
