The Instituto Cultural Peruano Norteamericano (ICPNA) presents As If Truth Mattered, a solo exhibition by artist Javier Barilaro. The show is on view at the Venancio Shinki Gallery in ICPNA Miraflores until Sunday, May 25, 2025.
In this exhibition, Barilaro employs a series of pictorial strategies that challenge perception and put into question the notion of certainty in the image. Painting, approached here as a field for both sensory and conceptual exploration, becomes a space for experimenting with tensions between opposites: the visible and the hidden, the structured and the random, the defined and the evanescent.
The exhibition display reinforces this perceptual and conceptual game: the paintings float in the space, detached from the walls, encouraging viewers to move around, to approach and step back, reconstructing the image from different perspectives. The only exception is a black painting anchored to the wall, acting as an absolute counterpoint that intensifies the contrast and highlights the duality between the subtle and the evident, the open and the closed.
The exhibition is open to the public through Sunday, May 25 at the Venancio Shinki Gallery in ICPNA Miraflores, located at Av. Angamos Oeste 120, Lima, Peru.
