Art Marbella celebrates its fourth edition from 20 to 25 July

For the 4th consecutive year the Palacio de Congresos y Exposiciones of Marbella will host, from July 20th to the 25th, the international modern and contemporary art fair ART MARBELLA. Four editions that reflect the success of one of the most important fairs in Spain and an essential event for collectors from around the world.

Marbella Mayor's Office will award an acquisition prize for the first time this year, with a grant of 5,000 euros for the purchase of a work that will become part of the collection of the Museum of the Engraving of Marbella. The selection committee will be formed by Alejandro Zaia, director of ART MARBELLA, and Germán Borrachero, director of the Museum of Engraving. In addition, there will be a space inside the fair dedicated to artists from the host city.

The Spanish galleries participating in the fourth edition of ART MARBELLA are: Carles Taché Gallery (Barcelona), CarrerasMugica (Bilbao), Max Estrella (Madrid), Aurora Vigil-Escalera (Gijón), Javier Román (Malaga), Lucía Mendoza Gallery ( Madrid), Xavier Fiol Gallery (Palma de Mallorca), Pedro Peña Art Gallery(Marbella), Contrast Gallery (Barcelona), 3 Punts Gallery (Barcelona), Arancha Osoro (Oviedo), Art Nueve (Murcia), Punto Gallery (Valencia) , Fernando Latorre Gallery (Madrid), Rodrigo Juarranz Gallery (Aranda de Duero), Valid Photo(Barcelona), ArtUnity (Granada), Art Wanson Gallery (Marbella), Bella Epoca(Marbella), Es Arte Gallery (Marbella), Espacio Olvera Gallery (Sevilla), Flecha(Madrid), Gaudi Art Gallery (Madrid), MAC Florencio de la Fuente (Huete-Cuenca), Miquel Alzueta Gallery (Barcelona), and Pilares Gallery (Madrid).

International galleries exhibiting this year will be: Filomena Soares (Lisbon), Galería de las Misiones (Montevideo), Wadström Tönnheim Gallery (Skanör - Sweden), Rofa projects (Potomac - USA), Gallery Steiner (Vienna), Double Zeta Art Gallery(Buenos Aires), Proyecto H Contemporáneo (Mexico City), USC Projects (Miami / Abu Dhabi), Yiri Arts (Taipei), Chancery Art Gallery (Bracebridge - Canada), Kún Kelemen Fine Arts (Bratislava), Paulo Nunes Arte Contemporánea (Vila Franca de Xira - Portugal), SVH Atelier Gallery (Vienna, Austria), Déjà-vu (Yverdon-les-Bains - Switzerland), and Ricart Gallery (Miami Beach).

ART MARBELLA will have five special projects: Arena Martínez Projects(Madrid), The Museum - XX Century Signed Furniture (Malaga), Genalguacil Museum TownContemporary Art in Marbella by Adolfo Sánchez Flores, and 28 0 14 Art Space (Sotogrande) that will bring an important exhibition of Sotogrande photographers.

Director Alejandro Zaia remarks: "we wanted to reduce slightly the number of exhibitors in this edition to be able to offer larger and more open exhibition spaces to many of the galleries that come to Marbella each year, as well as to expand the VIP area that will be dedicated to art and design.  This year we will have a careful selection of 41 galleries and 5 special projects that will be able to show their work in ample spaces, larger than the average of other art fairs ".

Like it did in prior years, ART MARBELLA will support the city’s important cultural offer during the week of the fair. This year’s highlights include the exhibition “La Escucha de Jaume Plensa: recordings and latest editions” curated by Chema de Francisco at the Museo del Grabado Español Contemporáneo, including a sound installation by the artist.

The fair’s Advisory board will once more include representatives from renowned galleries like Pedro Carreras (CarrerasMugica) and Carles Taché (Carles Taché Gallery). The layout of the current edition is substantially the same as last year's, designed with the support of prestigious Estudio Herreros, responsible, among other projects, for the ARCOmadrid fair in its 2008 and 2009 editions, the design of exhibition spaces in the Museo Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, the remodelling of the MALBA museum in Buenos Aires, the new Carreras Múgica gallery in Bilbao and the Munch Museum in Oslo.

ART MARBELLA’s renowned VIP and Collectors programme continues to attract collectors and personalities.  This year it will include private visits to art centres such as the Centre Pompidou and the CAC in Málaga, and exclusive parties at Puente Romano and Marbella Club. At the fair, the VIP Lounge will be designed by Blanca Pera Interior Design and will be inspired by the Dolce Vita, a space that will show works by So What Studio formed by local artists Paula Vincenti and María Egea.
