FIL Cuba 2019: A celebration of Cuban literature and culture

This 28th edition of the International Book Fair, to be held between February 7 and 17 at the Fortress of San Carlos de La Cabaña, and other institutions of the capital, will be a celebration of the book and Cuban culture, as it will provide to all readers and the general public an artistic and literary program unprecedented in the history of the event.

This was reported at a press conference held at the Palace of the General Captains of Havana's Historic Center, by Juan Rodríguez Cabrera, president of the Cuban Book Institute and by other representatives of the organizing committee of FIL Cuba 2019.

It was explained that more than 20 professional actions associated with the book and its makers are planned, including colloquiums, conversations, editorial presentations, exchanges between authors, librarians, booksellers and promoters, and especially the Encuentro con ... space, which will have among its guests the renowned Brazilian writer Frei Betto and Mr. Azzeddine Mihoubi, Minister of Culture of the Democratic and Popular Republic of Algeria, a nation invited to the literary event.

The variety of the artistic program conceived for the event which covers music, the performing arts, the cinema and the visual arts was highlighted.

Algeria will contribute to this program a set of actions representative of its culture, including book presentations; conferences; meetings with their writers; a filmic cycle, as well as a significant photographic exhibition with images of the history, heritage and nature of that country.

As usual, the guest nation of honor will present an artistic gala that will take place at the National Theater of Cuba, in which a large group of artists from that country will participate.

A tribute to Havana, for its coming 500 years will take place on February 14 with various actions among which one stands out for the attractiveness of the participation in it of Dr. Eusebio Leal Spengler, who has shown during his consecrated action for many years, his great love for the Cuban capital.

In terms of figures, it was specified in this meeting with the press that more than 4 million copies will be put on sale, among them 800 editorial novelties and it was announced that around 380 guests from 44 nations have confirmed their participation in the event. and 127 exhibitors, Cubans and foreigners, will market their literary proposals.

An announcement that will be very well received by the public is the possibility of obtaining in La Cabaña a free mobile application that provides information on the location of the exhibition spaces and other orientation information in the fairgrounds.

The 28th International Book Fair, Cuba 2019, will move from the culmination of its edition in La Cabaña and other branches of the capital on February 17, through all the provinces of the country until its closure in the city of Santiago de Cuba on April 14 and in all territories this fair will have the character of a cultural festival.
