The San Sebastian Film Festival will do a screening simultaneously in six Spanish cities

This event will take place at the same time on September 28th at 6 pm in: San Sebastian, Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Zaragoza and Seville. Tickets for this surprise film at Victoria Eugenia Theatre (San Sebastian) went on sale on September 15th.

The San Sebastian Film Festival and Warner Bros. Pictures Spain have selected the following cinemas in different cities in order to extend this unique event: Cine Yelmo Luxury Palafox in Madrid, Cinesa La Maquinista in Barcelona, Kinépolis Valencia in Valencia, Cines Aragonia in Zaragoza and Cine Cervantes in Seville. Tickets for all of these cinemas will go on sale today at 12:00 pm.

This year the Festival has recuperated this old tradition of programming a surprise film to be screened on its last day (Saturday 28), and for the first time in its history, the Festival will leave San Sebastian. The film will arrive in commercial cinemas on October 4.

Todd Phillips directs, co-writes and produces Joker, his personal take on the infamous DC comics villain, a story encompassing the more traditional mythology of the character, but addressed from a totally original angle. For the filmmaker, the character of Arthur Fleck, masterfully embodied by Joaquin Phoenix is, above all else, a man who struggles to find his place in Gotham's fractured society.

Phoenix, three-time Academy Award nominee (The Master, Walk the Line, Gladiator) plays the leading role alongside the Oscar-winning Robert De Niro (Raging Bull, The Godfather Part II). The film also stars Zazie Beetz (from the TV series Atlanta, Deadpool 2), Frances Conroy (from the TV series American Horror Story, Hulu's Castle Rock), Brett Cullen (42, Narcos by Netflix), Glenn Fleshler (from the TV series Billions, Barry), Bill Camp (Red Sparrow, Molly's Game), Shea Whigham (First Man, Kong: Skull Island), Marc Maron (from the TV series Maron, GLOW), Douglas Hodge (Red Sparrow, the TV series Penny Dreadful), Josh Pais (soon-to-be-released Motherless Brooklyn, Going in Style) and Leigh Gill (HBO's Game of Thrones).

Todd Phillips, responsible for the trilogy which began in 2009 with The Hangover, is also the author of a screenplay written with the screenwriter Scott Silver (The Fighter), based on DC comics characters. The film is produced by Phillips and Bradley Cooper under their Joint Effort label, as well as by Emma Tillinger Koskoff. The executive producers are Walter Hamada, Michael E. Uslan, Aaron L. Gilbert, Joseph Garner, Richard Baratta and Bruce Berman.

Warner Bros. Pictures Presents, in Association with Village Roadshow Pictures, in Association with BRON Creative, a Joint Effort Production, a Film by Todd Phillips, Joker.  It will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures.
