Vertigo presents Jeff Koons and Philippe Starck

Vertigo, located at Marbella Club Hotel, is the only gallery that sells art by Jeff Koons in Spain at this time, in collaboration with Bernardaud. At Marbella Design, Vertigo will exhibit the work Balloon Rabbit by Koons for the first time.

The artist was intrigued by the porcelain of Limoges and teamed up with Bernardaud to carry out this complex work. For more than 150 years Bernardaud has worked with the most skilled artisans in his workshop in Limoges, and has recently developed new technologies to produce the porcelain for Ballon Swan (Yellow), Ballon Monkey (Blue) and Ballon Rabbit (Red) by Jeff Koons.

Koons is widely known for its iconic Rabbit and Balloon Dog sculptures, as well as the monumental floral sculpture Puppy 1992, permanently installed at the Guggenheim Bilbao. His work sells at very high values. Balloon Dog (Orange) reached US $58.4 million at Christie's Post-War and Contemporary Art Evening Sale in New York City in 2013, becoming the most expensive work by a living artist sold at auction.

Marie Coquine Chandelier lamp by Philippe Stark

"I saw a beautiful Baccarat lamp. All well, so far!  Then it started to rain on the lamp. How strange…! The lamp opened an umbrella, large and white, and rose towards the sky. I asked: Why? The lamp, from afar, shouted at me: "because I am Marie Coquine, and in dreams everything is possible". With this phrase the designer Philippe Starck explained the process of creation of his impressive standing lamp Marie Coquine, inspired by Mary Poppins, formed by a Zénith chandelier, an umbrella, a photographer's tripod and a punching bag. This magnificent Baccarat work can be seen exclusively at the stand of the Vertigo Gallery in Marbella Design.

Philippe Starck has been a privileged partner of Baccarat since 2003. He designed the interior decoration of the Baccarat headquarters in Paris, and then achieved the famous Darkside collection in 2005, including the Zenith Noir lamp, which became one of the icons of the brand. Marie Coquine is a natural and impertinent interpretation of the clear glass Zenith lamp expressed by a floor lamp and a chandelier.

During MARBELLA DESIGN will also take place DESIGN FOR LIFE, the programme of conferences carefully thought for architects and design professionals. The conference, which will be coordinated by Anatxu Zabalbeascoa, will count with the participation of Deyan Sudjic, London Design Museum’s director; Teresa Sapey, architect and designer, acknowledged for the re-design of "no places"; Frank Stephenson, regarded as one of the world’s best car designers; Borja Borrero, publicist, chief creative officer of Interbrand for EMEA & Latam; Sarah Miller, specialized journalist in design for The Wall Street Journal; Òscar Mariné, graphic designer awarded with the National Design Prize; and Dionisio González, acclaimed Spanish photographer and artist.
