ARTE POR EXCELENCIAS to be launched at the Museum of Fine Arts

Havana: The eighth edition of Arte por Excelencias magazine will be launched by poet Nancy Morejon, National Prize of Literature, on January 25, 5:00 pm at the National Museum of Fine Arts (Cuban Art building’s theater).

As its first proposal, the magazine includes a text written by essayist and art critic Orlando Hernandez who recreates, with the resources of literary fiction, the work of Cuban artist Carlos Quintana, represented on the magazine’s cover.

With abundant images and critical assessments on contemporary art in the Americas and the Caribbean, the publication showcases works of Hector Anton Castillo, Carolina Lara, Liana Rios, Nahela Hechavarria, Daymi Coll, Hortensia Montero, Alban Martinez Gueyraud, Chrislie Perez, Jose Veigas, dealing with subject matters such as the controversial work of Spanish artist Santiago Sierra; outlooks of Chilean Ivan Navarro and Cuban Luis Gomez; assessments of Cuban videoart;comments and graphic displays on three Cuban poster makers (Laura Llopiz, Michelle Miyares Hollands and Giselle Monzon); information documented on the 104th meeting of American Museums (AAM); reflections related to the Chilean exhibition Campo expandido; an approach to the Biennial in Panama, new details regarding data found on artist Segura Ezquerro, and the closing caricature by Mexican Helio Flores.

The space for book reviews is up to four Cuban poets: Soleida Rios, Norberto Codina, Alex Fleites and Laura Ruiz Montes, who review books: Nkame. Belkis Ayon, Madrid, 2010; Cartografías disidentes, Barcelona, 2008; Jose A. Figueroa, un autorretrato cubano, Madrid, 2009; and Anne Cauquelin: Les Théories De L’art, Quatrième édition mise à jour, Paris, 2010.

This edition –which wraps up the first cycle of two working years– will be put on the map in different fairs and events in the region, such as ARCO Madrid, Art Madrid and Zona Maco, Mexico.
