3rd COLLECTION and Reasoned Catalogue in CA2M

Madrid: The CA2M Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo (May 2nd Art Center) showcases, through April 24, a new exhibition on its collection and it’ll the first time a reasoned catalogue is published on it.

Ten prestigious contemporary art critics analyze in the publication a hundred of the exhibited works: Francisco Carpio, Jose Manuel Costa, Kristian Leahy, Alberto Martin, Mariano Mayer, Jose Maria Parreño, Abel Pozuelo, Andres Isaac Santana, Virginia Torrente and Elena Vozmediano.

CA2M Collection is an ever growing testimony of art evolution since the 1980s to these days. It pays special attention to contexts from Madrid and Spain, by incorporating works from Spanish artists, galleries and exhibitions.

Distributed between the center’s first and third floor, as well as common spaces, 3rd Collection exhibition is a heterogenic compilation in terms of techniques and themes: paintings, sculptures, engravings, pictures and installations, along with a wide selection of video works.

Regarding to these cultural events (exhibition and publication), the note sent to our editorial department reads: “introducing the Collection along with its catalogue allows us to reflect on the collecting fact, the motives behind a series of works hoping to be a testimony of their time. A collection is many things at once. It’s, over all, a way of building a vision of the world, a way of creating a plot out of the meaning of its works and the lines, more or less visible, linking them.”

Finally: “As a collection of works and, therefore, the work of artists, it’s a narration cemented in references beyond objects preserved in warehouses. It’s a constant pulse of value notion, so spread in our contemporary society. It’s also a place where the selection is made. It’s not an archive where everything can be included, but a selection, one of many possible, which cannot aspire to gather or explain the totality of art.”
