THREE FACES OF EVE

Madrid: The Rita Castellote Gallery premieres the exhibition Tres caras de Eva (Three faces of Eve) within the project Play to 3 Bands to take place this Saturday April 2 between 12 and 21 hours uninterruptedly.

The exhibition, curated by Catherine Coleman Mchugh, showcases autobiographic works by three artists (four women): Jana Leo, duet Cabello/Carceller and Veronika Marquez.

In explaining the sense of the display, the promotional note sent to A x E News K reads: “Three attitudes, three expressions, three experiences different from each other are summed up by the self-portraits or self-representations of Jana Leo, Veronika Marquez and Cabello & Carceller. And the three of them turn to dualities, to the before and after to present versions of a feminism that could be called fifth generation feminism.” About this concept, the note explains: “Without going back to the history of women’s rights and the suffrage included, in addition to the demands initiated in the sixties and which have been already achieved, fifth generation feminism consists on an scrutiny to ourselves, not on whining around but on taking control of life.”

Play to 3 bands is an idea by Virginia Torrente, coordinated by Bernardo Sopelana and involving (April 2-30) some 18 galleries from Madrid. It consists of an exposition circuit made up of galleries from the center of the city.

The initiative, which promotes collaboration among galleries+artists+curators, tries to create synergies, among galleries and also among professionals and Madrid’s public to whom the opportunity to attend a simultaneous inauguration of various current artistic exhibitions is given. It is also about promoting the taste for art in a straightforward way, through exhibitions in galleries and making it easy and nice to participate.

“It is a fair of contemporary art on the streets, with free access, in which you can talk to protagonists face to face, find people who share your interests, make comments, questions, pictures and friends,” said organizers.
