ARCOmadrid 2012: FOCUS LATINOAMERICA

September, 30th 2011 sets the project presentation deadline related to SOLO PROJECTS: FOCUS LATINOAMERICA section at the 31st ARCOmadrid 2012 international fair, to be held on February 15 – 19, 2012.

Galleries can put on the map one individual project made by a Latin American creator, which will be evaluated by the curator team along with a committee member, who’ll handpick the artworks to be exhibited at ARCOmadrid 2012. The final selection will be confirmed by the Organizing Committee on October 25. The application can be filled out online at http://www.ifema.es/web/ferias/arco/solo_projects2.html

This year, the section is projected as a space for research and artist discovery due to the collaboration of a multinational team that’s made up of six curators: Cauê Alves (Brazil), one of the curators at 32nd Panorama da Arte Brasileira do Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo (2011) and 8th Bienal do Mercosul (2011); Sonia Becce (Argentina) and Alexia Dumani (Costa Rica), independent curators; Patrick Charpenel (Mexico), curator and collector; Manuela Moscoso (Colombia), who’s also a researcher; and Jose Ignacio Roca (Colombia), art director of Philagrafika 2010, contemporary graphic triennial in Philadelphia and curator at the 8th Bienal do Mercosul (2011).

Latin American presence in ARCOmadrid 2012 will be reinforced by the Meeting of European and Latin American Institutions, chaired by Agustin Perez Rubio (director of the Contemporary Art Museum in Castilla and Leon), to be carried out during the fair’s opening day and aimed at establishing ties among curators and directors of institutions from both shores of the Atlantic.
