Moro Bros: Advertising 50-70

An exhibition on Estudios Moro, pioneers on cinematographic advertising in Spain, was opened today at Aguila Aguirre Hall (Madrid Community’s Regional Archive).

The exhibition, titled El anuncio de la Modernidad. Los miticos Estudios Moro (1955-1970), showcases ads, objects, toys and merchandising of some of the advertising milestones created in that time.

Esperanza Aguirre, regional president, said during the expo presentation that Moro brothers personify the history of two pioneers who practically started from scratch” and, within a short period of time, turned “a small home studio aimed at cartoons into a leading advertising center”.

Journalist and writer Lluis Fernandez was the curator and handpicked 200 of the finest ads, specifically animation, but also real image and stop motion.

Moro brothers’ work represented an authentic pop phenomenon that reached out Madrid, Barcelona, Lisbon and the US, with popular outcomes such as the Cola-Cao song and the striptease of Avecrem’s Gallina Blanca, which earned them an award in Cannes and some setback with pro-Franco censorship.

The exhibition is going to be opened to viewers through May 6.
