Art l 43 l Basel Announces List of Participants

Scheduled for June 14-17, 2012, in Basel, Switzerland, Art 43 Basel will showcase once again a selection of the most influential galleries of the world.

 

This year’s roster includes more than 300 art galleries from 36 countries to display works by more than 2,500 artists from the 20th and 21st centuries. Handpicked by the Art Basel Committee, an international jury of renowned experts, it includes 73 art exhibition places from the United States, 55 from Germany, 31 from Switzerland, 29 from Great Britain, 28 from France, 15 from Italy, 9 from Belgium, 6 from Austria, Japan and Spain; 4 from Brazil, China and the Netherlands; 3 from Mexico, Norway and Poland; 2 from Canada, Denmark, India and South Africa; and 1 from Argentina, Czech Republic, Finland, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Lebanon, New Zealand, Portugal, Russia, Slovakia, South Korea and Sweden.

 

More than 99 percent of last year’s exhibitors will come back for the Art Galleries sector. The list of returning exhibitors includes the Miguel Abreu Gallery (New York), Chemould Prescott Road (Mumbai), Galerie Mehdi Chouakri (Berlin), Thomas Dane Gallery (London), David Kordansky Gallery (Los Angeles), Long March Space (Beijing) and Galerie Susanne Zander (Colonia), among others.

 

Some thematic spaces will be repeated this year as well, for instance, the area for young “to be discovered” artists, and Art Feature, on its third edition, that will focus on curatorial projects with the participation of A Gentil Carioca (Rio de Janeiro), Applicat-Prazan (Paris), Galerie Guido W. Baudach (Berlin), D'Amelio Gallery (New York), Sorry we're closed (Brussels), Stevenson (Cape Town), among other galleries. Likewise, the Art Unlimited, Art Parcours and Art Film sections will appear again. Art Salon’s program of lectures and discussion panels will be announced within the next few months.

 

Founded by a group of local gallery owners, Art Basel was held for the first time in 1970. The quality and diversity of works of art showcased attract more than 60,000 artists, collectors, gallery owners, museum directors, curators and art aficionados every year.

 

During Art 43 Basel, a series of displays will be unveiled in different institutions of the city like the Beyeler Foundation, Kunstmuseum Basel and the Tinguely Museum. Moreover, Theater Basel will present The Life and Death of Marina Abramovic, a production by the Manchester International Festival and the Real Madrid Theater with Theater Basel and the Holland Festival.
