Cuban Painting in Shanghai

Gilberto Frometa’s fourth personal exhibition in China, entitled Susurros de nobleza desde la lejanía, opened Friday at the Art Gallery in CAPITALS.

Susurros de nobleza… is made up of 25 pieces, including drawings on cardboard, engraving on metal and paintings on canvas, using a variety of techniques. The exhibit is exposed in Beijing. In these artworks, the artist scraps abstraction a little just to go back to the horse representation, relying on a discourse that sways between the borderlines of symbolism and surrealism, loaded with some childish nostalgia.

Gilberto Frometa (Havana, 1946) is a founding member of the National School of Art, where he graduated in 1970. He continued his studies at the Higher Institute of Art in Havana and graduated with a degree in Graphic Art in 1984. He has pulled off nearly fifty personal exhibits and has joined several collective exhibitions in Cuba and overseas. He’s been working in China since 2009 and has attended several editions of the International Art Beijing Fair.

The exhibition will remain open thru April 15.
