Man Ray at the Museum of Modern Art in the Dominican Republic

Over eighty shots, sculptures and drawing by Emmanuel Radnitsky, better known as Man Ray, are now being exposed on the first floor of the Museum of Modern Art in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic, since May 21.

This is no doubt an excellent opportunity for experts, curators and art students to wallow in quite unknown aspects of this artist who is widely remembered for his photography, but who also tried his hand at painting and cinema. And it’ll also be an occasion to enjoy some of Man Ray’s most outstanding pieces, many of them unique artworks made by the artist in Ridgefield, New York, Hollywood and Paris.

The provocations, the manifestos or the scandal served as the steppingstone for the creative and convulsive creativeness of many artists in the early 20th century. The Dadaism and surrealism that emerged later on shook the established notions about art and life. Man Ray applied in his work the transition from one movement to the other by means of an unsuspected evolution. His name, alongside the likes of Marcel Duchamp and Francis Picabia, is a must when it comes to spelling out that moment in the history of art.

The exhibition is sponsored by the Dominican Ministry of Culture, as well as the US and French embassies in Mexico.
