Estampa de Nuestro Tiempo, at Manuel Felguerez Museum of Abstract Art

Nowadays, the possibilities of sequence, reiteration, appropriation, registration and materiality offered by stamps are specifically useful to tackle matters related to the politics, society, body or identity. Even when there are lots of technological advances, it’s possible to find extraordinary examples of successful works done by applying the most basic stamp techniques.

Estampa de Nuestro Tiempo (Stamps of Our Time) gathers printings on stamp paper, stencils, embosses, lithography and silk screen printings, created by artists that make the most of the stamp, based on strategies established from broader fields of action that are defined by the body of work, and reflect a displacement from the research of the media’s possibilities to its use with specific purposes.

The show displays a diversity of matters that reflect toady’s conflicts. The entire exhibition allows viewers to make a fluid reading of the concerns of our time, which are interrelated throughout the exhibit.

The artists participating are Gustavo Artigas, Erik Bachtold, Elisa Casarin, Virginia Colwell, Monica Contreras, Sofía Echeverri, Demian Flores, Ilan Lieberman, Nuria Montiel Perez Grovas, Ernesto Morales, Taniel Morales, Dario Ramirez, Miguel Rodriguez Sepulveda and Jaime Ruiz Otis.

Estampa de Nuestro Tiempo is an initiative of Museograbado, curated by Marcelo Balzaretti, showcased July 12 – August 30, 2013, at Manuel Felguerez Museum of Abstract Art, Zacatecas City.
