Elvin Diaz’s Looop for MAM

The Ministry of Culture, the Head Office for the Book Fair and the Museum of Modern Art (MAM is the Spanish acronym) have opened a solo show entitled “Looop”, a video-installation proposal that synthetizes the work done by artist Elvin Díaz over the past 11 years.

MAM’s Projects Hall was the stage chosen to launch the exhibition within the framework of FILRD2014, which includes videos, video-installations, video-performances and documentaries.

During his address to the guests in the opening ceremony, Díaz explained that, in the very beginning, music, graphic mean and architecture were his essential support. With the passing of time, such content gains structure through installations, video and performance actions.

He added up: “So far, most of the tackled topics have to do with the existentialism, multidimensional and ludic. Nowadays, my work explores frontier and limit as meeting spaces, interconnection, exchange, differences and coincidences”.

Díaz is an architect and a self-taught artist, who has enriched with knowledge by means of different courses and workshops on painting, photography, art review, art theories, manufactured paper, installation and video-art, given at the Museum of Modern Art, Spain’s Cultural Center in Santo Domingo, Casa de Arte, León Center in Santiago, among others. He graduated in performance studies at FLACSO, Santo Domingo (2006).

He has participated in over forty collective and solo shows, art contests and the 19th and 21st editions of Eduardo León Jimenes Art Contest and the 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 26th and 27th editions of the National Biennale of Visual Arts at the MAM.

Looop is going to be open, 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m., throughout the International Book Fair at the Museum of Modern Art in the Dominican Republic, Pedro Henríquez Ureña Av., Juan Pablo Duarte Culture Square.
