Matadero '14 Summer Terrace Gets Cracking

August has arrived… and so has Matadero Summer Terrace! With the support of Mahou Cinco Estrellas, on Fridays and Saturdays starting at 8 o’clock at Matadero Square, you’ll discover the finest expressions of Madrid’s underground by the hand of its local bands and emerging artists. Fridays will feature an open program for public call so as to give the public an opportunity to shed light on their creations, and there will be curated programs on Saturdays. Two ludic, festive, free and alfresco events that are going to take place at the Escaravox designed by architect Andrés Jaque. The fourth edition of this event is curated by Sonsoles Rodríguez and Vanesa Viloria, Madrid Radical in charge of the musical program and the call will be up to Grupal Crew Collective.

Friday 1 set the beginning of the event, with concerts by Supergrupo2 and Dúo Divergente, followed by Do it your set fiesta. On Saturday 2, collective Fru*Fru delivered Twerking at Matadero Madrid! And Butt Building performance, accompanied by soul group The Government’s concert.

On Friday 8 we enjoyed the first proposal chosen during the open call, Enlace Funk’s Danzadelia, which made us dance to the rhythm of black music. On Saturday 9, El Hijo Tonto in “Una merienda” performed theater pieces by means of the improvisation, and the night came to an end with a complex and powerful sonorous proposal by Persons.

Terraza Tropical, by Sonidero Mandril Otro, was another project chosen during the open call and tackles the evolution of music, the public and conscience. That’s going to be the proposal for Friday 15. The Saturday 16 session will begin with Triiiturbo and the self-edition workshop entitled Qué, cómo, por qué y para qué es un fanzine?, and the concert by Alborotador Gomasio - with its "Más humillante que doloroso" – will close the day.

On Friday 22, and also handpicked out of the public call, we’ll have the Asian Party XL, an evening with Korean-Japanese animation. Collective PKMN has organized “Fake Festen: Tomatina” for Saturday 23, and it’s going to be the wildest and freshest popular party of the summer time. Afterward, project The Limboos will have us dancing to the rhythm of rythm&blues.

Cabaret Rodante is set to give us, on Friday 29, a jam session on wheels led by a visionary violinist, a revolutionary showgirl and a group of good friends, chosen by means of the open call. We’ll enjoy concerts by CVEEC and Computadora on Saturday 30, and the fourth edition of Matadero Summer Terrace will be closed by Grupal Crew Collective and its Terraza All Stars, the final gala and most heterodox session.

Furthermore, throughout August, the public can visit exhibitions Agitadores de conciencia, Estampadores de conciencia and Box_Pop4 at Central de Diseño, Sara Ramo at Abierto x Obras, Teresa Solar Abboud, Sandra Cinto and Estudio busca talento at Nave 16, and Salita de estar urbana at Matadero Square. Intermediae is also going to host weekly meetings of Urban Stayle, Saturdays at 11h.
