Foundation Heritage DGA will expose Dominican works in Museum of the Americas of the OAS

Santo Domingo, RD.- The Foundation of Cultural Heritage of the General Direction of Customs and the Permanent Mission of the Dominican Republic to the Organization of American States (OAS), with the collaboration of the AMA | Art Museum of the Americas and the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in the United States, will present an exhibition entitled, "Modernity and contemporaneity in the Dominican Art: Works from the Collection of the General Direction of Customs", curated by Maria del Carmen Ossaye.

 


This exhibition is part of the "Celebration of Dominicans" organized by the Permanent Mission of the Dominican Republic to the OAS and the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in the United States, in order to promote democratic values ??and principles of the Dominican Republic, as well as culture, origins and history.

 


According to the mission of the AMA | Art Museum of the Americas and its basis in the social role of the arts, its transforming ability of individuals and communities, and the role of the museum as a space for cultural expression, the General Direction of Customs of the Dominican Republic presents this exhibition project covering the history of Dominican art from modernism to contemporary through 30 works by some of the most important artists in the collection of the DGA that stands out as one of the most important in the country.

 

 

This sample of the richness and quality of Art and Dominican culture is also intended to promote multicultural dialogue from the recognition that the cultural heritage of the people is not only a reservoir of memory, it is also a symbol and standard of  its  identity, in fact, part of its cultural richness is expressed through its artistic heritage.

 


The exhibition will open on Thursday, October 16th, 2014 at 6:00 PM Washington time and will remain open until February 1st,  2015.
