Susana Baca concert

Susana Baca (Peru) will offer a gala concert, under the 3rd. Encounter of Popular Voices 2014, launched on Monday, October 13th.

Among the many awards received by Baca can be mentioned the Latin Grammy Award (2002) for his album Lamento Negro, in the "Best Folk Album" category. This same album also received a Grammy nomination that year in the "Best World Music Album" category. The album was originally recorded in 1986, to be reissued later on the seal Luaka Bop, by the Scottish singer David Byrne. The lyrics of some songs are based on poems by Pablo Neruda and Cesar Vallejo. She has also been awarded with the Order of Arts and Letters of the French Republic and the Order of Merit of the Republic of Peru. In November 2011, she won the second Latin Grammy of her career for he collaboration performed with the Puerto Rican group Calle 13 on the song "Latinoamérica", along also with Brazilian singer Maria Rita and Colombian artist "Toto" The Momposina.

It is worth to mention it will be the first time that the prestigious Peruvian singer will perform in Havana, through the commendable effort of Popular Voices Foundation, chaired by the musician and composer Algeria Fragoso in association with VP Productions.

In previous versions, the event has invited Lila Downs (Mexico), Maridalia Hernandez (Dominican Republic), Fun Fun (Germany), Amaral (Spain) and Toto La Momposina (Colombia).

The 3rd. Voices Popular Encounter 2014 will feature the special participation of Algeria Fragoso, one of the most important Cuban voices and recognized national artists Pancho Amat, Leyanis Lopez, Vocalite, Elain Morales, among others.

The organizers described the encounter as a "festival of popular music" which brings together performers, groups, composers, directors, producers and journalists of the music world with "contributions" to the popular genres and culture of their countries.
