First monographic immersion during the American years of Jose Guerrero

The tour includes works never seen before in Spain from private collections and national and American museums.

 

To mark the centenary of the birth of artist Jose Guerrero (Granada, 1914 - Barcelona, 1991), Grenadian art center that bears his name, directed by Yolanda Romero, and the Palace of Carlos V de la Alhambra, which joins to the celebration, dedicated to the Grenadian artist, until next January 6th , "The Presence of black. 1950-1966."

 

This is the first monographic immersion during the American years of the painter, the ones that most determinedly marked his path. The exhibition, with over one hundred works, including paintings, prints and drawings, begins with his first forays into abstraction through engravings and experimental "frescos portátiles" in the early 50s, which reveal an artist who was very interested in the possibilities of the integration of painting in the architecture.

 

He continues with his future and full integration into American Abstract Expressionism mediated decade, and ends at the moment of reunion with his Spanish memory and return to his country of origin in 1965.

 

The tour includes works never seen before in Spain from private collections and national and American museums. In addition to the more than one hundred works in the exhibition, a large set of documents including catalogs, photographs, documents and writings by Jose Guerrero it is also exhibited.
