FIG Bilbao: International Engraving Festival of reference of the Atlantic Arc

FIG Bilbao 2014, which has invited the Italian artist Mimmo Paladino, expands its artistic and informative offer, adds new support, and increases its areas of influence and therefore its international projection.
 

The Euskalduna Congress Palace in Bilbao hosts from November 20th  to November 23rd , the third edition of FIB Bilbao, the International Engraving Festival, which this year has the theme "Descubre tu papel en el arte. Colecciona, disfruta e invierte"  ("Discover your role in art. Collect, enjoy and invest") and has as its guest the Italian Mimmo Paladino (Italy, 1948) concerning the movement of Italian trans vanguard, from whom you can see the retrospective exhibition "Grabados", with more than 200 works, which has been made exclusively for Bilbao artist and in collaboration with the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum, home since 2012 of the star exhibits in this festival.

 

"The consolidation of the project and the growing interest of the public and exhibitors have led to the organization of the show change of venue to offer larger spaces, increase market supply and exhibit signs of international masterpieces of classical and contemporary graphic work." So, after two rounds of the competition, FIG Bilbao has become the engraving festival of reference to the Atlantic Arc, according to its makers.

 

In this regard, FIG Bilbao will combine the spaces dedicated to the art galleries, publishers and workshops with other pavilions where works on paper from museums and cultural institutions will be displayed.

 

In this edition more than 30 galleries and publishers from original print and art of ancient and modern European paper will gather. Among others, the screenprint Portuguese Centre (Lisbon), Art and Script (Madrid), Antiquarian Bookseller Astarloa (Bilbao), Modena Workshop. Mimmo Paladino, Urban Gallery (Bristol), Kunst in het GeuzenhuisKunst (Belgium), Windsor (Bilbao) and Vanguard (Bilbao).

 

More than 30 European galleries will show works on ancient, modern and contemporary paper.

 

To the offer of the galleries also summons the following exhibition spaces of cultural institutions and organizations. This year, the Italian Pavilion will present the Italian CECA and the center of Grafica d'Arte di Modena Laboratory, a workshop in which Mimmo Paladino, artist honor of this edition collaborates for more than 20 years.

 

Moreover, Baiona will star in the range of Pavilion Aquitaine culture. Like "Ciudad de honor" of the festival will show the artistic offer of the city with engraving samples from the Bonnat-Helleu Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts in Bayonne and the Basque Museum and the history of Baiona. The fair also will feature the Drawing and Illustration Museum in Madrid, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Alicante and Bilbao Fine Arts Museum to exhibit masterpieces of their prestigious art collections.

 

Other new things that brings this third edition is the first "Foro del coleccionismo"which curated by Rosina Gómez Baeza and Lucia Ybarra - -both partners of YGBART consultancy, will be on "El papel del coleccionismo" ("The role of collectors.") Also during the Festival the FIB Bilbao Prize of engraving will be delivered, which since it was established in 2012 has become the largest granted in this discipline, seeking to boost the contemporary engraving and providing a platform for emerging artists.
