Spanish collector exhibits works by 18 Cuban artists

The 18 artistas cubanos de hoy exhibition belonging to the collection of Spaniard Luciano Méndez will be opened on January 8 at the Jose Marti Memorial in Havana city.

With the consultancy of the audiovisual Cuban creator Roberto Chile, Mendez will provides his third exhibition as an expression of continuity and definition of criteria curatorial regarding the previous ones within his own collection.

José Veigas Zamora, a curator who also collaborates with these three exhibitions, points out that the next one there will be no generational preferences and includes renowned artists, some of them have won Plastic Arts National Prize as well as young plastic artists who are over 20 years old and are beginning to exhibit their works.

This time will be included pictures by Luis E. Camejo, Elizabet Cerviño, Daniela Díaz, Roberto Fabelo, Moisés Finalé, Carlos Guzmán, Alexis Leiva Machado (Kcho), Cristian López, Manuel Mendive, Mabel Poblet, Carlos Quintana, Ernesto Rancaño, Gabriel and Leticia Sánchez Toledo, Seron, Alfredo Sosabravo, Ana Toledo and Diego Torres.

Once again, the José Martí Memorial hosts the Mendez’s collection, whose catalogue was recently presented at the National Museum of Fine Arts with pictures related to all the pieces and taken by the successful Cuba photographer Chile.

Luciano is a Galician in love with Cuba and its people, free from selfishness typical of those private collectors who keep their treasures reserved only for their personal enjoyment and a small group of persons. He has a vocation for sharing his art with others and that these art jewels remain on the island.
