Waldemar Cordeiro: Fantasia Exata

Individual exhibition of one of the most important artists of the passage from modernity to contemporaneity in Brazil, features over 250 works, among drawings, paintings, photographs and maquettes.

The trajectory of one of the greatest Brazilian artists - computer art pioneer and main leader of the Concrete Movement in São Paulo -, is presented in the retrospective exhibition Waldemar Cordeiro: Fantasia Exata [Exact Fantasy], open form December 18th to March 1st at the Paço Imperial, Rio de Janeiro. Curated by Fernando Cocchiarale and Arlindo Machado, and undertaken by Itaú Cultural, the exhibition maps the creative process of a multiple artist, who had an outstanding performance also as experimental theorist and urbanist.

Permeated by his own texts, this show draws a comprehensive panel of Cordeiro's production - from the leading role in Concretist group Ruptura, active in São Paulo in the 1950s, to his last works made in computer in the 1970s. Waldemar Cordeiro died prematurely in 1973 after 48 years as a major contributor to the radical transformations experienced by the Brazilian arts in the second half of 20th century.
