Successful Tour of Ballet Prodanza de Cuba across China

Beijing.- Laura Alonso, director of the ballet company Prodanza de Cuba, expressed her satisfaction at the outcome of a tour across 16 Chinese cities, began in Shanghai and today performed in Xiamen, capital city of the southeastern province of Fujian.

This performance was attended by main leaders of the province, who praised the work of Prodanza in one of the main theaters of this prosperous ancestral village of large communities that traveled to Southeast Asia and Latin America centuries ago seeking a better life.

In statements by telephone, Alonso told the Prensa Latina news agency that they have brought China a more than two-hour version of "The Swan Lake", with which she pays tribute to her parents Alicia and Fernando Alonso, founders of the Cuban ballet school and the National Ballet of Cuba.

In Xiamen leading roles were performed by Patricia Hernandez and Alejandro Izquierdo, Hernandez said she was very impressed by the size of the theater and the ovations given by the audience that filled the place.

This is the first tour of Prodanza in China, during which some 45 performances are scheduled in 16 cities, concluding in February in Beijing.

The tour of the Cuban company began on December 19 in Shanghai and totals 12 performances so far.

Prodanza tour across China is the longest by a foreign ballet company in the last 20 years.
