Carlos Schwartz Exhibition . 3 Proyectos + 1 instalación

Since the 90´s, Carlos Schwartz work has been made under the same premise; that is giving the common objects a transcendental aura using the light and seeking for a theatrical disposition at the space. The evolution of his work, from his paintings in the 90`s and his re-used objects in the 2000`s go into a conceptual symbolism increasingly dense. The light generates a kind of rare logic. It expresses the dialectic of the permanent and evanescent, the fixed and changing, the light and obscure. They are like plays in opposite creating meanings in which the works show their narrative and symbolic potential.

The exhibition titled 3 proyectos + 1 instalacion (3 projects + 1 installation) is composed of four parts. The projects are Atlas de la memoria (no pictures), T L-P morse and Antifluorescentes (a partir de Dan Flavin); and an installation at the hall at the Gallery entrance.

Atlas de la memoria (no pictures): This work is within a work Project based on the work titled "Atlas Mnemosyne" by Aby Warburg. The "Atlas Mnemosyne" is a group of 62 photographic panels that, according to the creator, intend to show an inventory of the pre-existent models that made influence in the representation of the life in movement and determined the artistic style of the Renascence period.” It is a corpus of images and artistic forms that demanded from the Renascence period artists, or the distance among them or the assimilation of Apolo Dionisio.

Each panel is an image which geometry shapes another image. When copying the panels, keeping only the white rectangles of the pictures, Schwartz has tryied to figure out the geometric order of the panels. At the same time, a memory exercise is stated: How are the images that do not appear? Which ones I recall?

As the Warburg Atlas is a catalogue of images describing the changing of skeptical forms in Christian gestures, the fact of deleting the pictures allowing us to make another transformation, the Christian gestures from the Renascence period turn into current pathos. Substituting images from the Renascence period for those from our personal knowledge allow us to rebuild the Atlas with gestures and situations of the present time. Anyway, it is like re-imagining the atlas with our memory.

T L-P morse. This Project consists of translating from "Tractatus logico-philosophicus" language by Ludwig Wittgenstein into the morse language. This work is one of the cultural landmarks of the 20 century. This stranslation is an attempt to turn it into a lightly object. The rough structure of the text, its formulation in statements strictly numbered and grouped makes it transparent and lightly. The light becomes the sing representing the Tractatus due to it cannot be said but showed.

The project will be carried out in three parts:

A video screening on the work translated into morse language through light.

The translation of each aphorism on Din A-4 squared paper from the German edition.

The reproduction of the morse translation on paper, order by files (A-Z).

Antifluorecentes (A partir de Dan Flavin). This Project tries to contract the fluorescents by Dan Flavin to his pictures negatives. Change the transparency and lightly of lamps in obscurity and shadow, and get this way materializing the fluorescents, replacing its position at the space and pointing out its presence as an object, showing what the light cannot allow us to see.
