Walk through the work of Van Gogh in the Kröller-Müller Museum in Holland

During 2015 Van Gogh, whose theme is '125 years of inspiration', the Kröller-Müller Museum presents the exhibition Van Gogh & Co. tour of the collection. Still lifes, natural motifs, urban landscapes and human figures in the paintings of Vincent van Gogh are compared to works of the same genre of contemporary artists.

The exhibition includes over fifty paintings and drawings by Van Gogh and an even larger number of other artists such as François Bonvin, Floris Verster, Odilon Redon, Henri Fantin-Latour, Paul Gabriël, Paul Cézanne, Adolphe Monticelli and Claude Monet.

The first pictures were painted by Vincent still lifes, a genre that continued to use throughout his career. Some still lifes can be considered even as a kind of self-portrait, as in the case of Still life with bowl of onions, which brings together objects that relate to their daily lives. The exhibition offers the opportunity to observe the Dutch still lifes and French period Van Gogh along with works by other artists such as François Bonvin and Floris Verster. The Still life with coffee grinder, pipe and box jar is much like the Still Life mugs and hats Bonvin the same period. Still lifes with flowers that Van Gogh painted after his arrival in Paris compared with works by, for example, Henri Fantin-Latour, who enjoyed great fame as a painter of still lifes of flowers

Van Gogh began using floral motifs during his Dutch period (early), and did so throughout his career. During his stay in Provence, painted, for example, Cypresses with two female figures. Paul Cézanne, who had few years older than Van Gogh, painted a similar picture of a path in the Path box pond. Other examples of Johan Thorn Prikker and Boat Claude Monet-study are also observed.

During his stay in Paris, Van Gogh painted cityscapes, especially outside: his view of Montmartre with Windmills is one of the most famous. Maximilien Luce also painted views of Paris, such as land in Montmartre, Rue Championnet. Urban landscapes were also one of the favorite themes of Dutch artists like George Breitner and Isaac Israels.

The human figure is present in all the work of Vincent van Gogh, from the first farmers who painted in Nuenen, to the known portraits of friends and acquaintances in Arles, such as L'Arlésienne (Portrait Of Madame Ginoux). Van Gogh admired portraits of Adolphe Monticelli and figures of Jean-François Millet, who also is.
