Arts Merge in Cuba to Praise Iberian Roots

Havana.- Movie, photography, dance and music merge today in Cuba on occasion of the 26th Festival La Huella de España, with the objective of highlighting the Iberian roots in Cuba. A film season by Galician film-makers will begin today at the Screen 2 of the movie theater Infanta in Havana with the screening of "Lope", directed by Andrucha Waddington.

Photographer Rolando Pujols will open the photographic exhibition Huella de España at the Theater Mella hall, venue of the event.

After the opening of the exhibition, the Spanish associations settled in Cuba will perform "El camino de Santiago" (The road to Santiago), merging dance and music.

The 26th festival is dedicated to the autonomous community of Galicia, a region with broad links with Cuba given that Galician emigration was one of the largest settled in Cuba in early 20th century.

The National Museum of Fine Arts is exhibiting since the opening of the event, on April 12, the exhibition "Arte y Ritual en la Catedral de Santiago de Compostela", with 20 photographs made by Spanish artist Luis Gabu.

Specialist and scholar on Galician emigration Amancio Liñares will give a lecture today on the pilgrimage to Compostela, the historical and current significance of El Camino de Santiago.
