Rene Francisco's Catalog presented with Kelvis Ochoa's music

By: Susana Méndez

The catalog of Para donde vamos art exhibition by visual artist René Francisco Rodríguez, National Visual Arts Award 2010, made in December last year, at Collage Habana art gallery, attached to the Cuban Fund of Cultural Goods (FCBC, after its initials in Spanish), was presented at Martínez Villena Room of the Cuban Writers and Artists Association (UNEAC, after its initials in Spanish).

Such catalog was published by Collage Ediciones of the FCBC, which closed the 12th Havana Biennial, being this the seventh catalog presented, out of sixteen, that were published along the year and a half this institution has been working.

Having an excellent quality, the catalog also has its wise prologue, signed by one of the most prestigious critics of the Visual Arts in Cuba: David Mateo.

Its presentation was in charge of specialist Luisa Marisi, who quoted Mateo when saying that today in Cuba “there are not many artists willing to maintain a direct inquiry, clear and persuasive predictions about the present and future of our social context, disregarding the new conditions and without implying a strategic change of its regular metaphoric resources”.

Further on, she supported on Mateo's words, when saying in the preface: “René Francisco is part of that small circle of artists representing that type of artist we recognize and need at present”. Marisi also underscored that politics and ideology are two principles the artist has never quit in his work.

Meanwhile, National Visual Arts Award, René Francisco Rodríguez, thanked the FCBC, for the publication of his catalog, and praised its design, made by R10.

About the preface, she said: “ David Mateo does not only talk about my work, but also about what is happening in Cuba, about how Cuban society is being created or degraded, what it is becoming, how it was a uniform mass, made of groups of families, friends circles, cooperatives... I know there are many not interested in painting at this moment, who say it is something already finished, but I think that painting will always have a place in universe because it is unique, as it is drawing, which gives space to the human being”, she stated.

Another gift for maestro José Francisco in this party was the performance of Kelvis Ochoa, along with outstanding pianist Harold López Nussa and other excellent musicians.

Kelvin’s usual Cuban nature made this party “exquisite”, which made René Francisco dance to the rhythm imposed by his friend’s music.
