Whitney to Display Works From Major Gift of Contemporary Art

Selections from contemporary artworks donated to the Whitney Museum of American Art in 2012 are going on view next month.

The works donated by Thea Westreich Wagner and Ethan Wagner will be exhibited from Nov. 20 through March 6, 2016.

The couple split their collection between the Whitney and the Pompidou Centre in Paris. The Whitney received 550 artworks by more than 75 American artists and the Pompidou got about 300 by some 40 European artists.

The Whitney exhibition will show about 100 works from both gifts, including pieces by Robert Adams, Diane Arbus, Cindy Sherman and Christopher Wool.

An exhibition at the Pompidou will follow, opening June 9, 2016.

The Wagners acquired many of the works when the artists were relatively unknown. They continue to collect.
