Princess Caroline of Monaco Visits the National Ballet of Cuba

Havana.- The National Ballet of Cuba and its director Alicia Alonso received here today the Princess Caroline of Monaco and Les Ballets de Monte Carlo director, Jean-Christophe Maillot. During the tour of the company headquarters, visitors witnessed a rehearsal of the piece Tiempo de Danzón (Danzon Time), by the Cuban choreographer Eduardo Blanco and they met with Alonso in private.

The Princess traveled to Havana to accompany Les Ballets de Monte Carlo that will premiere this Friday here the play Cinderella, based on the original story of German brothers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm.

 

Directed for six years by the French former dancer, the group founded in 1936 is the national company of the Principality of Monaco, a city-state in Western Europe located between the Mediterranean Sea and the lower foothills of the Alps.

 

The simplicity, symbolism and contemporary dance stand in the presentations of the company that was reborn in 1985, thanks to the will of Princess Caroline of Monaco.

 

Formed by 50 dancers from twenty countries, Les Ballets de Monte Carlo has performed in important cultural centers in Europe and Asia, and has also taken its art to Brazil, Dominican Republic and Mexico.

 

The company will debut this Friday at the Avellaneda Hall of the National Theater of Cuba in the context of the 16th Theater Festival of Havana, and will repeat performances on Saturday and Sunday.
