ZZ top and Kenny G to perform in Cuba

Havana.- The legendary rock band ZZ Top and saxophonist Kenny G will perform in Havana at the Jazz Plaza International Festival, to be held from December 17 to 20, Granma newspaper reports.

The group will perform in the Cuban Art Factory and will also make a concert at the Maxim Rock, told musicologist Brenda Besada, member of the organizing committee of the Jazz Plaza.

Founded in 1970 in Texas, USA, ZZ Top has delivered a material full of legend including major hits like La Grange, Cheap sunglasses, Gimme All Your Lovin and Stages.

The Southern rock heroes entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 and the welcome speech was made by the legendary Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards.

The leader of the band, Billy Gibbons, who at some point was listed by Jimmy Hendrix as the young guitarist with more talent in United States, has published with the group over 15 studio albums, including the classics Eliminator, Degüello and El Loco.

ZZ Top's visit to Havana could be related to the CD Gibbons has just recorded, inspired by Cuban music under the name Perfectamundo.

"When I was 13 I got a guitar and my father, being an accomplished artist, sent me to New York to study Latin percussion. I am an artist of blues and rock and roll, but I would love to get to know Havana and its music," Gibbons said.

The famous musician added that he decided to experiment with Cuban rhythms thanks to the ex-drummer of Nirvana and leader of Foo Fighters, Dave Grohl, who persuaded him to meet that old dream while working together.

Kenny G is one of the instrumentalists who has sold more albums in the world and his work is followed by an audience looking in music for a relaxing or quiet experience.

The American saxophonist, to be presented in Cuba with his group, has played with Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Celine Dion and Luciano Pavarotti, has released over 23 albums and in 1994 won a Grammy Award for the hit Forever in Love.
