Wide national and foreign participation at FIART 2015

Havana.- The 19th International Handicraft Fair, FIART 2015 will be celebrated at Pabexpo from December 4 to 20 with the participation of 60 foreign stands, 33 stands from the Fondo Cubano de Bienes Culturales (FCBC, as per its initials in Spanish) and 254 individual craftsmen.

 

Surnai Benítez, adviser of the FCBC Direction, said in exclusive for ACN news service that FIART will have the usual stands from Peru, Mexico, Chile and other Latin American countries and will haver the presence of China, absent from last year’s Fair. 

 

The Fair, this year dedicated to Matanzas province and to ceramics, will have a special space curated by  the National Museum of Cuban Contemporary Ceramics, that will present the work of great potter Maestros like Amelia Peláez, Alfredo Sosabravo and others.

 

As it is usual, participating in the Fair will be the Artistic and Literary Promotion Company  ARTEX S.A, with the project Arte en Casa, besides a new initiative focused in the recreation of the homeland symbols in textiles made in a respectful way, indicated Benítez.

 

She also informed about the presence in the Fair of the Musical Editions and Recording Company (EGREM) with its offers, the Génesis Galerías de Arte, Collage Habana, the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Arts and Industry (ICAIC), and La Casa del Abanico.

 

The fair will also present from December 8 to 11, at Pabexpo’s room No. 7, a theoretical event dedicated to pottery that will include a wide program of conferences, presentation of researches and of books.  

 

Benítez explained this theoretical program has been kept in the Fair’s program for several years because is the opportunity for the fair does not turn in an only sale and buying act, but also an act of reflection, debate, ideas movement and that contributes to the development of the artistic expression to which is devoted every year.  

 

The 19th International Handicraft Fair, FIART 2015, will be inaugurated on December 4 with the performance of Matanzas province artists like Orquesta Miguel Failde, Danza Espiral group and others.
