Der Heilige Berg II, Jonathan Freemantle

Gallery MOMO Cape Town is pleased to present Der Heilige Berg II, an exhibition of mixed media paintings.

The inspiration for these paintings draws from Freemantle’s experience working in the Rannoch Moor mountains in Scotland and the Magaliesberg mountains in South Africa.

In order to produce these paintings Freemantle ground the rocks down into a powder format and mixed these powders with beeswax, turpentine, linseed oil and Damar resin.

Four small photographs taken of Joseph Beuys at Rannoch Moor by one of Freemantle’s mentors in Scotland, Richard Demarco are included in the exhibition.

The opening night will feature a performance between the artist, Freemantle and his long time performance collaborator, Hannah Loewenthal.
