ATELIER 1022 showcases during Art Basel the art installation “Hatching Music” (95’ x 72’, color pencil and ink on paper) composed of 15 individual panels, by artist Ellie Perla.
“Sounds look, feel, and smell like liquid drops; a deconstructed rainbow; like scented air particles lifting from the fabric of the human creative nerve to float into space. Drawing music has taunted me for years. I find it challenging and soothing at the same time.
The lighthearted and childish approach I took to complete this piece, one year in the making, reflects the origin of sound, from the most intimate recesses of our being, from the day we are born. There is a playful quality to all sounds, when we take them apart, when we follow them to where it all started. Chaotic overlapping and distorting sounds creates noise; deep down, when it emerges, noise, just like music, is made of innocence, harmony, color and balance.” – Ellie Perla
ATELIER 1022 is located in Wynwood Art District (450 NW 27th Street, Second Level, Miami, FL 33127) and is composed of gallery space, a concept store, therapy room and studio. ATELIER 1022 is located within Wynwood Warehouse Project, on the second floor above Wynwood Café, only a block away from Wynwood Walls, and the area’s most popular restaurants and nightlife, such as Wynwood Kitchen, Zak the Baker, Joey’s Restaurant, and Wood Tavern Miami; as well as just minutes away walking distance from the renowned Margulies Collection of modern art, and the creative community of the prominent striped Wynwood Building.
ATELIER 1022 recreates the sense of an artistic community in a public space. The brainchild of the Perla family of artists, photographers, and writers, Atelier 1022 invites art lovers to join in and celebrate beauty, colors, and rhythms in a place where art is made and polyglot gossip resounds off the walls. ATELIER 1022 offers AFTERNOON T.E.A. each Wednesday, attends on Second Saturdays Artwalk, and caters by appointment for group visits, art exhibitions, and special events. The Wynwood Art District and Wynwood Fashion District are sub-districts of the Miami Wynwood neighborhood containing galleries, museums and art collections. Wynwood is adjacent to the Miami Design District.
