‘Garden of Earthly Delights’ to Stay at Prado, Broad Museum Counts Visitors, and More

Spain’s Prado Museum and the Museum of Royal Collections have signed an accord giving the Prado rights to permanently display four of its most famous masterpieces, including Hieronymus Bosch’s The Garden of Earhly Delights, an elaborate and fantastical biblical triptych that depicts the creation story, Adam and Eve and Hell. The four paintings covered by the deal are among the Prado’s most popular with visitors.

Artists Spencer Finch, Brian Knep, Wangechi Mutu, Matthew Moore and Nari Ward will create site-specific installations inspired by Kentucky state history for the grand reopening of the Speed Art Museum in Louisville. The museum has been closed for three years for $60 million renovation, and will reopen in March 2016.

According to European heritage organization Europa Nostra, a Picasso mural on the facade of a government building in Oslo, the Venice Lagoon, and Brussels’ Palace of Justice are among the continent’s most endangered cultural sites.

Los Angeles’ Broad Museum reports 177,264 people have visited since the museum opened on September 20, and it’s on track to see 200,000 by the end of the year.

Art website Hyperallergic checks in with students at the Corcoran School of the Arts & Design, now overseen by George Washington University, a year after the closing of the Corcoran Gallery of Art.
