Premio Casa 2016 Exalts Latin American Literature

Havana.- The 57th edition of the Literature Prize Casa de las Americas promises a first-level event according to standards set in its previous versions, announced the organizing committee. Such was the convening power of the event, that so far more than 400 literary works from all parts of America are competing in categories related to Spanish, English, French and Portuguese languages, whose prizes will be awarded next January 28.

According to the Director of the Center of Literary Research at Casa de las Americas, Jorge Fornet, the high point of this edition will be the lecture given by Uruguayan former president Jose Mujica on the 26.

Although no details on the subject of the lecture were released, it was informed that his wife Senator Lucia Topolansky, will also accompany him.

The executive also highlighted that the 22 jurors are scattered through the different language variants contemplated by the Premio Casa 2016.

"One of the curiosities of the event is the initiative that the jury is varied, for example, not always the judges of Brazilian literature speak Portuguese, so interaction is encouraged and invisible barriers of language are broken", said Fornet during a meeting with the press.
