Announcing PULSE New York 2016 PROJECTS and PRIZE Nominees

Macon Reed, Eulogy For The Dyke Bar, 2015 presented by Mackin Projects.

We are pleased to announce the return of our PROJECTS and PRIZE programming to the eleventh edition of PULSE New York from March 3 - 6, 2016, at the Metropolitan Pavilion. This year's PROJECTS include large scale installations by Macon Reed, Yumi Janairo Roth and Mia Taylor.

For Eulogy For The Dyke Bar, artist Macon Reed, presented by Mackin Projects, will create a fully immersive, working bar in homage to the legacy of dyke and lesbian venues, an increasingly rare component of the contemporary queer cultural landscape. Daily performances by queer and trans artists will take place inside installation for the duration of the fair. In Stacked Datsun, Yumi Janairo Roth, represented by Sienna Patti, piles wooden shipping pallets inlayed with mother of pearl to an almost impossible height in the back of a homemade trailer. In beautifying the typically banal pallets with patterns that resemble Southeast Asian traditional folk art, Roth asks viewers to reassess the familiar. Mia Taylor’s interest in abstraction is highlighted in her PROJECT, ‘?+?+?+?+'. Entering ?+ (or Command-Plus Sign) on an Apple keyboard instructs the computer to zoom in: a seductive tool when trying to make sense of a bad quality, low-resolution image. '?+?+?+?+' is an installation that abstracts from its digital sources, physically reconstructing the broken down images into shifting forms that deflect and reflect.
