Havana.-The Spanish Ballet of Cuba starts its 2016 Season with an ambitious artistic program at Gran Teatro de La Habana Alicia Alonso, announced the organizers.

Con puro acento español is the title of the show the Company will present on February 19, 20 and 21 at the Federico García Lorca Hall in the recently restored eclectic style coliseum, commented Eduardo Veitía, director of the company.

The Maestro added that before each presentation the company will offer a Fashion Show at the lobby of the theatre to exhibit textile pieces from Cuban designer Jose Luis, and 950 silver and gemstones costumes from goldsmith Rosana Vargas and her brand Rox.

A group of dancers will exhibit the outfit before the show during a varied program that will include soprano María Eugenia Barrios, one of the most important lyric voices of the Island.

This time, Barrios will return to the Federico García Lorca Hall, her home during her more than 40 years artistic career, to sing Granada with Cuban cantaor Andrés Correa the theme, and music from Mexican Agustín Lara.

Company musicians will lead the first part of the show entitled Lo Clásico Español en concierto, with the choreographies Sevillana Clásica, Sonata en Ré, Danza V, Las Bodas de Luis Alonso and Ante el Escorial, this last one in world premiere.

The second part of the program titled Sentir flamenco will include the pieces Maditerráneo, Añoranza, Esencia, Arte y tronio, Guajira flamenca, A puro compás and Epílogo.

The main roles will be performed by the company’s first dancers Leslie Ung, Graciela Santana, Amarilis Guillarte, Daniel Martínez and Ricardo Quintana who will dance sevillanas, farrucas, Flamenco and popular dances.

The Spanish Ballet of Cuba, founded by Veitía 29 years ago, defends a contemporary theatrical language from the Flamenco culture to the most diverse roots of the national idiosyncrasy.
