Major Lazer Concert, in the Threshold of Musicabana Festival

Havana.- The group Major Lazer will give its first concert in this capital on Sunday, March 6, generating great expectation among the island¡s youth. The performance of the group in the Antimperialist Tribune along the seawall (Malecon), will be the first big-scale show of electronic music from the United States in the island, as several media described it.

 

The event, free and open to the public, precedes the Musicabana Festival, which will be held in this city from next May 5 to 8.

 

On this occasion will coincide in Havana stages several world-renowned artists as Jamaican Sean Paul, Brazilian Carlinhos Brown or the French-Cuban duo Ibeyi.

 

The Major Lazer group, formed by the DJs Diplo, Jillionare and Walshy Fire, are the most popular representatives of a new trend in the electronic genre that mixes Caribbean and Latin rhythms like the reggae or reggaeton with others like the dubstep and the house.

 

As ambassador of Musicabana, during its stay in Havana the trio will also meet with music students, as well as local DJs who will join them in the stage.

 

Diverse news media quote the words of Diplo about the island, in which he comments that Cuba has a powerful cultural impact all over the world and growing in Florida, for him it became one of his main reference to evolve musically.

 

On the event, young Cuban photographer Ariel Maceo Tellez said to be an undeniable fan of the group and said it is phenomenal that they want to play in Havana and that he will be able to attend.

 

On her part, journalist Leydis Hernandez, 24, said it is an important event for national culture and will have a great participation of youth, as many prefer electronic music and Major Lazer is one of the most popular groups worldwide.

 

Each day more foreign groups arrive in Cuba and youth is always grateful because even if you know only one song you go and have fun because it is something unique, said the student of Management and Conservation of Heritage Leslie Garriga.
