The Martha Graham Company Shines in the Cuban Ballet Festival

Havana.- The US company Martha Graham shook the stage of the Mella Theater in this capital with an exquisite program in reverence to modern dance that today returns to that coliseum.

Martha Graham Dance Company to Perform in Cuba

After 75 years of its debut in Cuba, the group founded 90 years ago by Graham- famous dancer and teacher - returned to this island to star yesterday an attractive show as part of the 25th International Havana Ballet Festival Alicia Alonso.

Pieces of deep abstraction were performed with admirable coolness and passion by a group of talented dancers, among whom stood out Peiju Chien-Pott and Ben Schultz.

Their majestic technique was appreciated the piece Errand into the Maze, a Graham's choreography that was performed for the first time in 1948 and deals with how to face and overcome fears imposed by life.

Another of the most applauded pieces was Diversion of Angels, a delicate reflection on some of the several manifestations of love: maturity, eroticism and naivety.

In this representation the main roles were assumed by Konstantina Xintara, Ben Schultz, Xin Ying, Lorenzo Pagano, Charlotte Landreau and Lloyd Mayor, who overflowed passion and elegance in every movement.

Today the Martha Graham company will give dance lovers in Cuba a present with another exquisite performance to be ratified among the most important groups in the modern dance landscape nowadays.

This is one of the proposals of the Festival, which will take place on this island until November 6th.

Considered one of the most important events of classical dance in the world, the event includes since this year the name of the prima ballerina assoluta and director of the National Ballet of Cuba, Alicia Alonso.

Dance companies from Europe, Latin America and other places around the globe are meeting at the prestigious festival that began on October 28th.
