Death of George Michael Remains Unexplained

London.- British pop singer and songwriter George Michael has died at the age of 53 at his home in London; the cause of death is unknown.

'With great sadness we confirm that our beloved son, brother and friend George died peacefully in his house during the Christmas period. We ask that his family be respected at this hard time,' says a statement from the artist's representative.

Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou (Michael George's real name) was one of the most recognized pop stars of the 1980s and 90s; he started his career with Wham! and then went solo.

During almost four decades of work, he sold more than 100 million records, won two Grammys and according to rumours, was working on a new album and a biographical documentary.

British police said there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of the musician, but thousands of fans around the world are still waiting for the cause of death.
