Rien à vendre... Barbara Claus (Brussels)

'' Rien à vendre… will be completed in situ over the Christmas season; a time of year often associated with frenzy, scattering, consumerist overabundance and troubled memories. So how do we avoid the emotional effect on families ripped apart or reconnected over this break? How do we avoid a loss of meaning through creation, imagination, or fitting words? I have often preferred to isolate myself in these moments. The invitation to occupy this space will allow me to overcome this latent anxiety. The drawing will be meditative, somewhat unpredictable, joyous, emotional and ephemeral. I will opt to draw at night. As I am driven by a desire for freedom, those moments will inevitably disappear in an imperceptible and solitary temporality. The work will be visible from the street, as a distance is necessary to face the precariousness of the process in all its vulnerability.'' - Barbara Claus
