Drum Festival Tributes Cuban Rumba

Havana.- With a tribute to great performers of the Cuban rumba, intangible heritage of humanity, the 16th International Drum Festival, Guillermo Barreto in Memoriam concludes today.

 


The musical and dance formations of the country Yoruba Andabo, Explosion rumbera, the Casino Wheel of Granma and Santiago All Star will get on the stage of the Mella theater in this capital to honor the work of artists of the stature of Francisco Zamora, Minini '; Juan de Dios Ramos; Gregorio Hernández, El Goyo; And Geovanni del Pino, among others.

 

During the closing night, the winners of the percussion competitions will also be announced, in the specialties of drums, congas, timbales, bongoes and batá drums; Rumba, from 15 years old; And casino, the latter open for the first time to all ages.

 

Besides the Mella Theater and its gardens, since March 7th, the Casa de la Música de Miramar, the Avenida Sala, and the Rosado Saloons of the Tropical and El Elegante of the Riviera Hotel, have taken in more than 1,500 dancers And Cuban musicians from other latitudes.

 

In this version, the event brought together percussionists from half a dozen countries, resulting in memorable presentations with the firm of the US Mark Guiliana and Will Calhoun - two of the most acclaimed drummers of a new generation of jazz - as well as The Norwegian Per and Hans Mathisen, who promoted in Havana their new album

The festival also received Memo Acevedo, from Colombia, Jaquelene from Canada, Nanny Assis from the United States and Brazilian Marcus Santos, and served as a point of reference for members of the Uruguayan formation Candombe Fussion 2.

 

Organized with the consent of the National Center of Popular Music, the program of the Drum Festival was extended in concerts, master classes and skill performance.
