AKAA: 6 galleries exclusively on the new digital platform!

In 2021, AKAA creates a digital platform to accompany its physical edition. For the first time, it will be possible to discover the fair in a digital version by visiting the viewing rooms of the exhibitors present at the fair, but also of 6 other galleries of the African continent that will participate only in the digital fair, bypassing the barriers imposed by the health crisis.

The digital platform of AKAA opens it doors for a VIP preview starting 4 November 2021 and will be accessible for the public from 12 November to 21 November on the website www.akaafair.com. 

BARNARD GALLERY - Capetown, South Africa

Barnard Gallery was founded in 2010 by Christiaan Barnard and is home to a small but selective group of contemporay artists. With a regular program of solo exhibitions by its stable of artists, Barnard Gallery also presents curated group shows of and collaborative projects with invited artists that explore diverse aspects of contemporary art practice.

CIRCLE ART GALLERY - Nairobi, Kenya

Founded in 2012, and based in Nairobi, Kenya, Circle Art Gallery promotes contemporary art from Eastern Africa.

GALERIE ATISS - Dakar, Senegal

A pioneer in Senegal, Atiss gallery opened in 1996 during the African contemporary art Biennale Dak’Art, presenting local artists who have since become famous like Soly Cissé, Camara Guéye and Serigne Mbaye Camara. Discovering new talents, the gallery has rapidly expanded its interest to artist from other African countries. Thanks to its collaboration with Galerie MAM in Douala or Galerie CHAB in Bamako, or to projects like the Galeries Plastiques Itinérantes, Atiss gallery contributes to stimulate the profession in Africa.

LOUISIMONE GUIRANDOU - Abidjan, Ivory Coast

After 25 years of fascinating discoveries with Arts Pluriels, the art historian Mrs Guirandou offers a new showcase for creators from five continents and a new space, the LouiSimone Guirandou Gallery. This space is the outcome of more than 30 years of artistic and cultural activities carried out by its founder for agrowing family of artists, partners and friends.

OH GALLERY - Dakar, Senegal

OH Gallery opened in Dakar in November 2018 with as main objective to support the development of a local market of collector of every age or nationality. Since 2018, the gallery offers an experience tailored for each exhibitor by operating by appointment only. This way of This way of appropriating the space aims to generate an intimate approach, making each visit unique and personal. The selection of artists exhibited - Africans and from the rest of the world - questions the notion of “africanity” and what does or does not correspond to the concept of “contemporary African art” by creating dialogue between different stories and technics. The ambition of the gallery is also to interact with the different surrounding realities by sharing projects and collaborating with locales and international galleries, alternative spaces, institutions, which are generating new ideas and attracting new audiences.

UBUNTU ART GALLERY - Cairo, Egypt

Ubuntu Art Gallery is a contemporary art gallery based in Cairo, Egypt. It opened its doors in October 2014 and specializes in Egyptian contemporary artworks and the secondary market of Egyptian modern art. Its mission is to promote young emerging artists as well as established artists, both regionally and internationally. The gallery takes its name from the Swahili word "ubuntu" which means "I am because we all are", to evoke the holistic concept of being. At Ubuntu Art Gallery, a belief in the interconnectedness between Egyptian history and society and how this influences Egyptian identity is at the heart of the work on display.
