Antonio Obá, 'Revoada'

Revoada looks at the trajectory of the artist who, in his twenty-year career, has disseminated his works in public and private collections in Brazil and abroad. His work consists of three important pillars, which guide the narrative of the exhibition: the remembrance of historical events, the attribution of new meanings to these episodes and the educational process.

The exhibition presents a set of paintings with themes focused on childhood, and an unprecedented installation (Revoada), thought from the context of the museum — the Pinacoteca was originally born to be a school. The work consists of 200 pairs of children's hands molded in resin in workshops offered by the artist at Ocupação 9 de Julho (Movimento Sem Ceto do Centro), at two private schools and at the Pina Contemporânea studio.

In addition to the installation, 20 paintings are organized based on the theme of childhood and a vertical movement, very present in Obá's work. In the course of revisiting moments in history, the artist inscribes tragedy and violence in a mythical time, transforming historical characters into entities, archetypes that can review their position in history itself.

Childhood in Antônio Obá is not naive. The artist's children-characters are agents of their time, conscious and capable of transforming the world.
