Barcelona Grec Festival exposes cultural bridges with Africa

The Barcelona Grec Festival of performing arts opened on Sunday with a program that shows the cultural bridges between Africa and Europe through this Spanish city.

The play 'Carrer Robadors', based on the novel of the same name by Mathias Enard,
opened the event that will run until July 31.

The play, directed by Julio Manrique and starred by young people of African descent, presents a story of love and adventure that travels from the Maghreb to the city of Barcelona, capital of the Spanish autonomous community of Catalonia.

More than 38 theatrical pieces will be staged during the event, which also includes musical, dance, circus and film shows.

Among them are included scene adaptations of emblematic works such as Isabel Allende's 'The House of the Spirits', adapted for the stage by Carme Portaceli, and Juan Rulfo's 'Pedro Páramo', adapted by Mario Gas.
