Beijing Opera will perform in Cuba

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Cuba, the prestigious and world-famous Beijing Opera will perform in Havana in a cultural gala coordinated by the Ministry of Culture of Cuba and the Chinese Embassy in the Cuban capital.

The so-called "Gala of traditional Chinese culture" will be composed of traditional music of the Asian giant, dance and small fashion show, as explained by the organizers. The soiree will take place on January 10 and 11 in the Avellaneda room during regular hours of the National Theater of Cuba.

They also pointed out that the multicolored show will also be dedicated to the Chinese Spring Festival scheduled for January 25, 2020. This will begin the year 4,718 of the traditional Chinese calendar, which corresponds to the year of the Rat.

As for the artistic delegation they specified that they come from the province of Jilin and is composed of 26 people. Another activity for the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries will be the Culinary Festival, which will be held at the National Hotel from January 17 to 19.

The Beijing Opera was declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity on November 16, 2010 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). It is the musical representation par excellence in China. They say that it appeared in the city of Beijing around 1840 although its popularization dates back to the 30s of the last century and still remains.

Specialized media agree that the traditional repertoire of the Beijing Opera includes more than a thousand pieces and the most repeated plays add up to almost 400, coming from historical stories or novels about political and military clashes.
