Cuban National Ballet, 83 Performances in 2016

The Cuban National Ballet (BNC) performed 83 times in Cuba and abroad during 2016, including on stages in Canada, Puerto Rico and Mexico, according to reports by the company led by Alicia Alonso.

 

A statement from the institution said that this year its main performances were in Italy, Russia, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Chile, the United States, Mongolia, Viet Nam, Laos and Cambodia.

 

Dancers Viengsay Valdés, Anette Delgado, Sadaise Arencibia, Grettel Morejón, Ginett Moncho, and the dancers Dani Hernández, Rafael Quenedit, Raúl Abreu and Patricio Revé, were among those who performed.

 

For the BNC, the most relevant event of 2016 was the 25th Havana International Festival of Ballet Alicia Alonso, held from October 28th to November 6th, which includes a total of 35 premieres by Cuban and foreign choreographers, six of them worldwide. In addition, the company reported that in 2016 they received 15 awards and recognitions, 10 national and five international.

 

The BNC confirmed that it will perform the classic Nutcracker on January 1st in honor of the 58th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution.

 

During the performance at the Gran Teatro de La Habana Alicia Alonso, the annual prize of the institution will be announced as well as mentions in their Book of Honor.
